Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm.


Rate: $32—$36/HR USD (Direct hire position)


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in science highly preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in high complexity clinical laboratory testing, preferably in molecular diagnostics
  • Ability to confidently and rapidly cut and mount high quality tissue sections from a variety of tissue types including needle biopsies
  • Maintains continuing education units required by California Department of Health Services
  • Must be meticulous and detail oriented
  • Experience managing people a plus
  • Experience with all major brands of histology equipment a plus
  • Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) preferred


Description:

The Histotechnician primary responsibility is receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist. This may include logging, batching, cutting, mounting and staining procedures. Responsibilities include all aspects of operations, including : training personnel, implementing workflow and software process improvements; coordination of quality assurance program; ensuring compliance with state and national regulatory agencies; and interfacing with other departments including laboratory, Pre-Analytical and the pathologist. The position is responsible for maintaining efficient processes as they relate to company goals.


Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Working under general direction to precisely and accurately conduct a variety of routine and specialized histology procedures. Researching, troubleshooting, and resolving histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires you to produce the highest quality of microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, and H&E staining, and equipment maintenance
  • Preparing microscopic slides on human tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include paraffin processed tissue
  • Quality control and quality assurance procedures
  • Slide organization, prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications
  • Processing specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry
  • Performing routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s) according to established SOP's
  • Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment in designated area. This includes cleaning equipment, minor troubleshooting and reporting any irregularities in operation to supervisor/manager
