Overview


Pro Kids, First Tee - San Diego is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to challenging youth to excel in life by promoting character development, life skills, and values through education and golf.


Founded by former AFL/NFL player Ernest H. Wright, Sr. in 1994, it provides underserved youth in San Diego County with positive, life-changing experiences. The organization values perpetual growth, integrity, community building, stewardship, compassionate communication, and embracing challenges.

Position Summary


Under the guidance of the Director of Golf, the Assistant Golf Professional supports golf and life skills programs, delivers lessons, manages group and behavioral aspects, and maintains equipment. The role upholds safety policies, promotes professional standards, and embodies Pro Kids' core values through golf education and mentorship.

Experience and Qualifications


Note: Pro Kids supports ongoing education via PGA, LPGA, and First Tee training.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Passionate about working with youth; capable of teaching life lessons and core values alongside golf skills.
  • Registered as an apprentice with PGA or LPGA, having passed the playing ability test.
  • Experience in golf industry and youth engagement.
  • LPGA USGA Girls Golf experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse children and community organizations.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with youth, staff, and donors.
  • Proficient in MS Office and maintaining confidentiality.

Physical and Work Environment


Work occurs on golf courses with moderate noise; includes occasional computer work, communication, and lifting. Reasonable accommodations are available.

Training and Background Checks

  • Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days.
  • Clear background and DMV record checks prior to start.

Essential Responsibilities


Provide golf instruction for ages 7-17, assist with coaching, programs, tournaments, and outreach. Support volunteer training, mentorship, and record keeping. Maintain professional communication and act as a role model.

The duties are illustrative; other related tasks may be assigned.
