SUMMARY:

The role of a Residential Staff member is to oversee the student-athletes in the residential setting of SDFC's Right to Dream Academy. This part-time role requires the individual to provide the highest standard of care and take responsibility for the safety and well-being of the student-athletes who live, go to school, and train at our campus. This role works closely with SDFC RTD Academy staff to help educate, develop and support student-athletes in a variety of settings.

The part-time Residential Staff member will report to the Head of Residence. They will work across the football, residence and school to support the delivery of a holistic development environment at the Academy for the student-athletes, their families, and Right to Dream staff. In the first year of our Academy, the person will have a predictable schedule of 10-25 hours over a 7-day week that may include occasional overnights.

The part-time Residential Staff member will work both on campus and off. On campus work will include helping to support extracurricular programs, enrichment periods, meals, evening study hours, evening and overnight dormitory duty, and weekend activities. Off campus work will include helping to oversee field trips and off campus student activities, football travel, student transportation, and other off campus social and weekend activations.

They will play a role in supporting safeguarding efforts on SDFC's Right to Dream Academy campus where we aim to deliver best practices to the residents in San Diego that are inspired by and align with the residential work being done by Right to Dream around the world.

This is an opportunity to be a part of a great team building something meaningful for San Diego. For the part-time position, the Academy covers meals while on duty, provides overnight accommodation (as needed), and covers the cost of any job-related travel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  • Oversight and responsibility for the safety and care of the students in a variety of settings and times of day including on campus events, off campus trips, evening, overnight and weekend activities in the dormitory or otherwise
  • Focus on the safety, safeguarding and holistic care of the student-athletes
  • Communication, relationship-building and oversight in line with Academy mission, vision and values to nurture a positive and aspirational space where children and staff thrive
  • Engagement with student-athlete development and relationship-building as a mentor and positive influence on their Academy lives
  • Generally uphold and reinforce the values, expectations, and rules of the Academy to hold student-athletes to high expectations with high care
  • Assist with medical wellbeing (mental and physical)
  • Assist with overseeing student-athlete's responsibilities (ex. chores, study halls)
  • Organize and deliver activities during assigned duties
  • Reliably maintain assigned schedules for student-athletes
  • As needed, maintain administrative paperwork (ex. Weekend reports, behavior observations, incident logs)
  • Professional, punctual and values-aligned communication with all Academy staff, student-athletes, and families

Weekday Duties

  • Lead an enrichment (Dream Big) club or class on Wednesday afternoons
  • Oversee study hall (WIN block) throughout the week
  • Supervise mealtimes while on duty
  • Supervise student transitions between school, sporting, residential and other activities
  • Attend mid-day matches
  • Oversee evening dorm duty
  • Support student-athlete chores
  • May support travel for unique games programming for specific student-athletes

Weekend Duties

  • Oversee weekend activities/events on and off campus, including possible travel within and outside of San Diego
  • Assist in planning of social and recreational activities
  • Attend weekend matches
  • Assist in the coordination of student-athlete travel to and from the Academy on flexible weekends (student arrivals and departures)
  • May support student-athlete travel to/from religious services
  • May support travel for unique games programming for specific student-athletes

Other Responsibilities

  • Follows all protocols related to safety, emergency, and safeguarding practices
  • Participate in student reviews by providing insight into the shared experiences with the students
  • Engage with residential, football and academic special events
  • Provide transportation to student athletes as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates can meet the requirements with a combination of experience in the following areas:

  • Must possess 2-5 or more years of experience working with youth in residential settings, academic (ex. schools) or enrichment settings (ex. camps) with positive recommendations from previous settings
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and have a clean driving record.
  • Must obtain 1st Aide / CPR / AED training certificates
  • May possess a teaching qualification, certifications in counseling or social work, or coaching certifications
  • Strong knowledge of youth settings, with preference for experience in residential settings
  • May understand professional soccer club player development
  • May have played soccer to a reasonable standard
  • Understanding of operation within an institution which prioritizes both football and academic pathways
  • Bilingual – fluent in English & Spanish is highly desirable
