SUMMARY

Responsible for the educational, physical, and emotional development of students. Must perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Plan and develop courses according to curriculum guidelines and state requirements.
  • Review psychological reports and IEPs (Individual Education Plans).
  • Write, present, and implement IEPs and ITPs (Individual Transition Plans) with students 16 years of age and older.
  • Develop and present lesson plans using various techniques.
  • Conduct standardized tests per district policies and state law.
  • Maintain order and safety in the classroom.
  • Counsel students with academic or behavioral issues.
  • Keep records of academic performance, attendance, and social development.
  • Report on student development and conduct parent-teacher conferences.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, educational conferences, and training seminars.
  • Collaborate with speech and language, occupational therapy, and counseling services.
  • Document children's progress through progress notes and incident reports.
  • Participate in annual training for physical restraints and report any incidents.
  • Create a positive physical and emotional environment.
  • Act as case manager for each student in your classroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Indirectly supervise Instructional Assistants assigned to the classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License (DL)
  • Mild/Moderate Teaching Credential
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Eligible for intern status in a mild/moderate or moderate/severe California credential in Special Education program
  • Experience and/or knowledge of students with special needs and multicultural awareness

Preferred Requirements:

  • Credentials (Mild/Moderate)
  • Annual certification of SPA (Safe & Positive Approaches)
  • CPR Certificate
  • Standard First Aid
