Job Description The Lead Carpenter follows plans to ensure requirements and specifications are met. Inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, rebuilds, constructs, and maintains all structures to which he/she has been assigned. Being a Lead Carpenter requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may also be required. In addition, a Lead Carpenter typically reports to a supervisor/manager. Being a Lead Carpenter gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline, and so, often works under moderate supervision. Working as a Lead Carpenter requires 2-5 years of related experience. Skills Desired General Construction - Construction Drawings - Carpentry - Electrical Systems - Plumbing - Framing Responsibilities Taking apart or constructing scaffolding, bracing and other temporary structures Digging trenches and backfilling holes Operating equipment and heavy machinery Following instructions from construction project managers and supervisors Loading and unloading building materials Removing hazardous materials and debris from the work site Assisting trade workers, such as carpenters or electricians Controlling the work site by putting up barriers and signs or directing traffic Requirements Alcohol/Drug free at all times while on the job site High standards of integrity and professionalism Experience working with equipment such as boom lifts, scissor lifts and fork lifts 2 to 5 years of working as a Journeyman in a construction-related job Following rules of the Foreman, Project Manager or other supervisors Loading/Unloading building materials Removing waste and hazardous materials from the jobsite Assisting trade workers, such as carpenters Passing drug and background checks Have a valid driver's license and a dependable vehicle for work.
