Overview

This full-time, on-site role will be supporting our San Diego, California location. The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer II/III will support the EHS Staff in maintaining policies/procedures required to adhere to CAES EHS Management and Technical Standards. The EHS Engineer will provide support to assist the organization in meeting and maintaining CAES's "No Harm" standard and ISO 14001 certification. The EHS Engineer will provide support for the site's safety programs including the ergonomics program, as well as any associated evaluations, inspections, training and recordkeeping necessary to promote the safest work environment possible. The EHS Engineer will, on occasion, assist the department in matters relating to the site's environmental responsibilities and have a good understanding of reporting metrics and drive continuous improvement by engaging the site's other business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

1. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting

   1. Support environmental permitting and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to air quality, wastewater, hazardous waste, and stormwater.

   2. Prepare and submit permit applications, reports, and responses to regulatory agencies, including:

      • Air Pollution Control District (APCD)

      • Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ)

      • Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC)

      • Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB)

      • Cal/OSHA

      • City of San Diego Water & Fire Departments

      • County of San Diego Radiological Health

   HSE Program Management

   1. Ensure EHS policies and procedures reflect current regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

   2. Develop and implement corrective actions and training programs to address compliance gaps.

   3. Conduct regular workplace assessments and implement improvements to enhance HSE program maturity.

   4. Identify and assess environmental and ergonomic risk factors, and recommend mitigation strategies.

   5. Support or lead emergency response planning and drills; maintain knowledge of emergency response fundamentals.

   Training, Coaching & Communication

   1. Provide day-to-day HSE guidance to site personnel as part of a cross-functional team.

   2. Coach employees and supervisors on their roles in maintaining HSE compliance.

   3. Develop, update, and deliver safety and environmental training programs.

   4. Promote safety culture through effective communication, including team meetings, newsletters, and the company intranet.

   5. Participate in Safety Committee meetings, team inspections, and Leadership Walks.

   Monitoring & Reporting

   1. Complete required EHS tasks and inspections to ensure compliance with environmental permits and internal policies.

   2. Track, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics, including waste and chemical management, incident tracking, and audit findings.

   3. Provide backup support for chemical technician tasks, as needed.

   Other Duties

   1. Support continuous improvement initiatives within the EHS function.
   2. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by the EHS Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Two (2) years of experience in the Environmental, Health, and Safety field
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
• This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license

Preferred: * Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health, and Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry * Understand data analysis, trending, root cause problem solving and using measurements to drive process improvement * Thorough understanding of ergonomic principals as applied to various work environments including industrial, manufacturing and office settings * Enthusiastic about process improvement, a self-starter that is driven to improve and sustain initiatives * Familiarity with the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) method in defining risk associated with each step of a process or task * Knowledge of federal/state/local regulations * Data analysis * Technical writing/interpretation of reports * Microsoft office/other software proficiency * Incident analysis - root cause to corrective action Physical Demands: * Ability to bend down (work under a desk or bench), stand for extended periods, and lift 50lbs

Salary Range: $94,029- $117,537 annually (San Diego).

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base bay. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
