Accommodations Counselor (Student Services Professional III)

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a caseload of students with various disabilities.
  • Review disability documentation and assess the need for accommodations.
  • Provide guidance and information to students, faculty, and staff on disability-related matters.
  • Function independently with cases of varying complexity.
  • Work closely with the university community to promote awareness and understanding of disability-related needs.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

Student Disability Services (SDS) provides a full range of accommodations and services to over 4,000 students with physical, psychological, and learning disabilities.

Education And Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field; including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution.

Key Qualifications

  • Excellent working knowledge of the Americans with disabilities Act, Sections 504 and 508.
  • Ability to interpret medical and psycho-educational documentation to determine eligibility for disability accommodation.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures related to disability services delivery.
  • Fluency in using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database management systems.
