Salary: PLNU pays its faculty using a payscale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 2-semester appointment range from $77,357 to $133,945. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position. Job Title: Professor (Associate or Assistant) of English**Job Status:**Full time*****Job Description:**The Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing, and Languages (LJWL) is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track teaching position in English at the Associate or Assistant faculty rank. The University is seeking an individual capable of excellent teaching, committed to significant involvement with students both within and outside of the classroom, and interested in participating in the academic unit's service learning and/or undergraduate research programs.LJWL has a strong commitment to quality teaching, and passion for building Christian community with students, a tradition of high-impact academic practices, and experience in using our skills for collaborative and interdisciplinary work.Responsibilities begin August 2026 and will include teaching a wide variety of courses in English literature and associated programs in LJWL. This is an in-person, full-time position on our Point Loma campus.****Responsibilities:***** Develop and teach in-person courses on our Point Loma campus in the English discipline, including upper and lower division major courses as well as some general education courses. Potential for some online teaching.* Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students.* Advise and mentor students.* Participate in departmental activities and governance.* Serve on university committees and perform other faculty duties.* Help students in preparing for their post graduate career and vocation.* Innovate university programs and courses to meet the evolving needs of the field and post-grad market.* Work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, and communities.* Create and update accessible content on PLNU's learning management platforms.****Qualifications:***** Education: Ph.D. or All but Dissertation (ABD) in English, Literature, American Studies, or a related field.* Subject Matter Expertise required: Early and/or Modern American Literatures.* Subfields Preferred: African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Indigenous American Studies, Environmental Studies, English Education, Digital Humanities, and/or Rhetoric/Composition.* Experience: + Evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence in higher education. + Evidence of a commitment to literary scholarship.* Philosophical: Commitment to Christian liberal arts education, supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.* Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
