Overview

The Sr. Air Quality Engineer / Scientist (Environmental Permitting and Compliance Specialist) performs professional engineering work, leading and executing the compliance and permitting functions related to Air Quality Regulations and Compliance. This candidate will review processes and equipment, analyze permit-related technical and regulatory issues, and communicate analyses within the client organization and with government agencies and the public. The work is challenging, broad in scope, and varies by project. The role requires effective communication, decision-making, and time management. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Position level

This is a Senior to Principal level position. They are assigned to perform more complex and sensitive duties in the occupational field and may be asked to train and mentor other employees or monitor work produced by others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute compliance and permitting activities related to Air Quality regulations for client facilities.
  • Review processes and equipment, analyze permit-related technical and regulatory issues, and communicate analyses to Yorke, the client, government agencies, and the public.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and ensure timely preparation of reports and submissions.
  • Mentor and potentially supervise project teams to ensure quality deliverables, adherence to scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Manage client relationships and foster collaboration while maintaining a focus on quality.

Qualifications

  • 10-20+ years of experience in the Air Quality and/or Environmental industry in an engineering role, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Experience leading Air Quality services, including:
    • Process and equipment review
    • Air quality permitting under SCAQMD and other Air Districts, including Title V Permitting
    • RECLAIM implementation and reporting
    • Annual Emissions Reporting
    • Air Dispersion Modeling
    • Air Quality Assessments including Data Analysis and Emission Inventories
    • General Air Quality Compliance for facilities in CA
  • Ability to manage and lead active team members on project teams toward completion within scope, budget, and schedule, ensuring quality work product.
  • Ability to manage successful relationships with clients, staff, and regulators through effective communication and collaboration without compromising quality.
  • Proven track record or desire to engage in regulatory work with SCAQMD, EPA, CARB and/or other regulatory agencies.
  • Experience working on-site at client facilities.
  • Ability to prepare reports and submissions in a timely manner.
  • Experience handling highly technical data and interpreting technical data.
  • Strong motivation to continue working in the Air Quality field and expand knowledge and experience.
  • CA Regulatory/Compliance experience is required.

Job Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant technical degrees from an accredited college (minimum GPA 3.0).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, handle multiple projects, prioritize work, and work efficiently.
  • Desire to train and share technical expertise in environmental rules and regulations with clients and team members.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and crisis management.
  • Track record of successful analysis, interpretation, and application of rules and regulations toward practical solutions.
  • Critical thinking and solution development skills.
  • Software knowledge:
    • Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint (required)
    • Microsoft 365 Applications, including SharePoint (a plus)
  • P.E. Certification (a plus).
