Director – Principal Engineer, Data Cloud – Pfizer

Within Pfizer Digital, the Customer & Commercial Creation Center (C4) builds solutions for external customers throughout the product lifecycle and partners with commercial teams to deliver technology-enabled value.
About the Role
You will lead a technical team of 10–25 engineers and be responsible for engineering decisions, solution design, delivery, and operations. The role requires balancing strong technical knowledge with people‑management skills and cross‑functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor engineering teams to deliver high‑quality products from inception to completion.
- Represent engineering in program and stakeholder meetings, providing consultation, risk identification, and solutions estimates.
- Design and architect robust, scalable solutions that align with Pfizer business objectives and data privacy requirements.
- Maintain code quality and secure coding practices, guiding configuration of SaaS solutions for compliance.
- Facilitate collaboration among Enterprise Architects, Business Architects, Vendors, and Developers to move concepts to delivery.
- Act as a translator between business stakeholders and technical engineers to ensure security, privacy, and business needs are met.
- Collaborate with security teams, digital operations, and support to manage incidents, outages, and post‑mortem analyses.
- Coach and mentor junior and mid‑level engineers; foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the top technical authority on project decisions and solution architecture.
- Guide the lifecycle of engineering projects, ensuring alignment with architectural vision and best practices.
- Promote secure coding hygiene and correct SaaS configuration for compliance.
- Encourage continuous improvement, automation, and adoption of new technologies.
- Advocate for DevOps and privacy‑by‑design principles throughout the organization.
Cross‑Team Collaboration
- Align program objectives, dependencies, and schedules across multiple teams.
- Engage with other Principal Engineers through the Principal Engineers Forum for best‑practice sharing.
- Work with security, digital operations, and support to ensure seamless BAU operations.
Excellence by Design
- Continuously innovate and design solutions that support program OKRs.
- Ensure solutions are secure, compliant, scalable, maintainable, and efficient.
- Foster a DevOps model of shared responsibility and transparency.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
- Embed privacy and security into system design from the outset.
Coaching & Mentorship
- Lead code reviews and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on Developer Experience survey results.
Incident Management & Recovery
- Lead or assist in security incident response and rapid containment.
- Guide troubleshooting during operational outages and conduct root‑cause analysis.
- Ensure data privacy considerations are part of system design.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Extensive software engineering experience with complex project leadership.
- Deep technical expertise at senior‑level.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Broad knowledge of digital pharmaceutical platforms, UI and back‑end systems.
- Proven technical leadership and mentorship abilities.
- Excellent communication in a matrix, geographically distributed environment.
- Influence and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
- Understanding of privacy & security “by design” and compliance best practices.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical data handling regulations.
- Experience with DevSecOps best practices, CI/CD, APIs, microservices, and integration patterns.
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira/Confluence).
- Hands‑on experience with Salesforce.com, Data Cloud, AgentForce, TableauNext, Copado, and SonarQube.
- Experience with multi‑cloud architecture and deployments.
- Experience in highly regulated, sensitive data handling scenarios.
- Strong written and spoken English with excellent asynchronous communication skills.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 7+ years.
- Professional engineering leadership certifications are a plus.
- Demonstrable DevOps and large‑scale enterprise software delivery experience.
- Salesforce Data Cloud experience (required); AgentForce and TableauNext an advantage.
- Copado and SonarQube experience preferred.
- Agile experience (Scrum, Kanban) and estimation of complex technical stories.
- Experience working with remote and multicultural teams.
- Experience with security and compliance audit processes preferred.
Non‑Standard Work Schedule, Travel & Environment Requirements
- Global, enterprise‑facing role; travel across regions expected.
- Weekend, holiday, or after‑hours work may be required.

Compensation & Benefits
Annual base salary ranges from $156,600 to $261,000 (U.S. range). Eligible for a 20% base‑salary bonus target and Pfizer's long‑term incentive program. Benefits include 401(k) with matching, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, caregiver/parental and medical leave, and comprehensive medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage.
