Job Summary

Material Planner to support program execution. Own the flow of materials from engineering release to production use, serve as the bridge between engineering, supply chain and production to translate BOMs and ECOs into executable plans, and drive plan‑buy‑build readiness, mitigate shortages and keep builds on schedule with clear status and risk visibility.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain time‑phased material plans based on BOMs, production schedules and program need dates.
• Translate program demand into planned orders and coordinate with Procurement to initiate purchasing activities.
• Monitor material status and availability across all program phases—development, qualification and production.
• Ensure MRP system data accuracy, including lead times, lot sizes and reorder points.
• Drive shortage resolution by working with Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality.
• Coordinate material impact assessments for configuration changes and design evolutions.
• Identify risks to material readiness and elevate potential shortages or delays.
• Collaborate with Engineering on BOM accuracy, part substitutions and early material needs.
• Provide input to program schedules, burn‑downs and execution readiness metrics.
• Provide input to financial forecasts to ensure proper time‑phasing of program costs.

Key Outputs

• Material Requirements Plans (MRP runs) and action messages.
• Planned order reports (with recommended POs or work orders for Procurement/Operations).
• Shortage Reports with root cause and mitigation plans.
• Line of Balance (LOB) tracking across top‑level assemblies and key long‑lead parts.
• Material Status Dashboards for Program IPTs.
• Inputs to Master Production Schedule (MPS), IMS and financial forecasts.
• Inventory analysis reports to optimize stock levels and reduce excess.

Required Qualifications

• Five (5) + years of professional experience in production planning, materials coordination or manufacturing operations.
• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, industrial engineering or related discipline from an accredited college/university. May consider equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
• Experience working to identify, utilizing quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities, and communicate manufacturing process flow improvements and successfully influence others to effect change in engineering drawing, work instructions and other requirements documents.
• Experience with AS9100, AS9102, ISO 9001.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be a self‑starter and able to work with limited supervision while coordinating initiatives across multiple functional organizations.
• Demonstrated proficiency using an MRP software (CostPoint or NetSuite preferred).
• Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Experience in engaging with and representing the function with customers (DCMA, Program Office).
• Experience with program management or supplier processes.
• Involvement and experience in Lean Manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands‑on planning for EEE parts, cable/harness assemblies, machined metals, and value‑added processes such as lead‑forming, reballing, plating, etc.
• Working knowledge of industry standards such as NASA EEE‑INST‑002, MIL‑STD‑883, MIL‑PRF‑38535/19500, IPC, counterfeit avoidance and material control, DFARS specialty metals, etc.
• Ability to translate ECOs and BOM changes into effectivity plans and kit readiness without disrupting build flow.
• ERP/MRP mastery for planning parameters on EEE and cable/metal parts, including lead‑time modeling, alternates, substitutions, and lot control.
• Clear communication with engineering, production, quality, program management to mitigate shortages and coordinate waivers/deviations.
• APICS CPIM, CSCP or similar certification. Familiarity with EVMS and FAR/DFARS requirements.

Salary Range

$75,000 - $100,000/year
