Provides day to day administrative oversight of the Office of Community & Engagement (OC&E). Acts as the point person to receive and provide information, assist with planning, and with pipeline program(s) administration. Manages the calendar for the Office of Community & Engagement. Offers additional support, with the guidance of the Director, OC&E, to the management of the volunteer-based efforts primary calendar of events, as prescribed. Responsibilities include reviewing and maintaining content for both internal and external OC&E web pages, with a focused emphasis on resources tailored to the Salk Institute community. This role also entails documenting departmental meetings and related activities through detailed note-taking and record management.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Community Engagement

  • Manages all administrative functions related to year-round events facilitated by the Office of Community & Engagement (OC&E), including event planning, staffing logistics, and direct support to the Director, OC&E and Community & Engagement Partner. Serves as a key liaison to the Salk Pre/Post Doctoral office to organize and coordinate school site visits for postdoctoral scholars.
  • Build and maintains collaborative relationships with San Diego County school districts to identify and develop partnership opportunities that align with OC&E initiatives.

Maintaining Currency

  • Collaborates with internal community members, including the office of the Chief Science Officer (CSO), Communications, Faculty, lab personnel, and other internal community members to review, curate and maintain program related content. Ensuring content is current and relevant to the international scientific community, while developing program-based content, featured within our pipeline programs, is a priority.

Personnel Engagement

  • Provides ongoing lucid communication to volunteer support members. Collaborates closely with OC&E and Communication department team members to build communication year-round.

Special Projects

  • Leads and supports special projects as assigned by the Dir, OC&E and the VP, Office of People & Culture (OPC), ensuring timely execution and alignment with organizational goals.

Volunteer Management

  • Supports the recruitment of volunteer support (and participation) for OC&E facilitated pipeline programs. Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of program execution from initial planning to final implementation. Collaborates year-round with the Dir, OC&E, C&E Partner and UKG management team to ensure program success and continuity.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university.
  • Two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office.
  • Other skills required: Next Generation Science Standards Training.

What We Can Offer

The expected pay range for this position is $32.00 to $36.00 per hour. Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
