Overview
The Defense Systems line of business within the CAES Integrated Defense Systems division is recruiting a Principal Business Development Manager to develop and win new business with the top tier Defense Primes, Defense Department customers, and international customers with a priority focus on the military radar or space market segments. This is a key business growth role reporting directly to the Senior Director of Business Development & Strategy for the Defense Systems line of business. This full‑time position is based in the San Diego area and has an expectation of 25–50% travel. The Director will maintain the highest standards of business and technical acumen, performance excellence and integrity. Additionally, this role involves active participation in defining the company's short‑term and long‑term growth strategies.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a vital growth agent for the division by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with industry primes and understanding their business objectives.
- Generate orders and forecasts, develop and execute capture strategies for designated market areas within radar or space systems.
- Target existing company solutions that provide value and identify new opportunities where IR&D and CAES's design capabilities can be leveraged.
- Collaborate with Engineering to align technology roadmaps with emerging customer needs and investment opportunities in either radar or space systems.

Performance Metrics
- Meet new business order objectives for the Defense Systems Division.
- Achieve new business order objectives for Integrated Defense Systems.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the IDS business development and strategy organization.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics or a related Business field, coupled with at least 8 years of experience in leading multi‑disciplinary teams within Tier 1 and Tier 2 U.S. defense contractors.
- Direct experience and expertise in either radar technologies or space systems, complemented by a solid understanding of relevant markets and technologies.
- Familiarity with the latest advancements in radar systems or space technology and their applications in defense scenarios.
- Active DoD/Secret clearance, with the potential to obtain DoD/Top Secret clearance.
- Strong network and background in either the radar or space market.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Physics or a related Business field.
- Over 12 years of direct experience in business development focused on radar technologies or space systems, demonstrating consistent success in driving business results.
- Strong business and technical acumen, including experience with budget management, scheduling, cost estimation, resource planning, and proposal development.
- Experience leading within a matrix organization and delivering results.
- Experience in program management and/or engineering related to military applications in radar or space systems.
- For space role, Active DoD/Top Secret SCI clearance.
Salary Range
Salary Range: $164,884 - $241,548 annually (San Diego). Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base bay. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
