Data Governance Manager

Overview

The Data Governance Manager will serve as a strategic and technical leader, responsible for implementing a robust data governance framework across ICW Group.

Responsibilities

  • Implement a scalable data governance framework aligned with ICW Group's strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of data quality standards, policies, and procedures to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of data across systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and company policies; proactively manage risks related to data usage and privacy.
  • Collaborate with IT, data analytics, business units, and legal/compliance teams to ensure cohesive governance across all data use.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and change agent to foster a data-driven culture. Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to data stewards across the organization.
  • Lead the technical implementation of data governance tools, including metadata management, data lineage, and data catalog solutions.
  • Establish KPIs for data governance initiatives and provide ongoing reporting and insights to leadership.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices in data governance.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align the data governance strategy with business and technology goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of data governance professionals.
  • Plan, assign, and direct the daily work of the Data Governance team, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and salary review process.
  • Recognize high performers and enforce disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Mentor and coach team members, focusing on professional growth.
  • Ensure adherence to departmental policies and procedures, maintaining a compliant work environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or similar roles.
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.

Certifications

  • CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional)
  • MDMC (Master Data Management Certified)
  • DGQP (Data Governance and Quality Professional)
  • CIPM (Certified Information Privacy Manager)
  • CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, tools, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in data cataloging, metadata management (e.g., Alation), data discovery and classification (e.g., BigID).
  • Advanced SQL proficiency for querying, data validation, and analysis.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools for data ingestion (e.g., Fivetran).
  • Deep familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (AWS Aurora, Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Experience with data quality and master data management tools.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CPRA, CCPA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders across all levels.
  • Proven ability to present information effectively to ICW staff, executive management, and external audiences.
  • Analytical mindset to diagnose problems and drive effective outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale data governance projects; strong organizational, project management (Agile), and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build consensus; experience using collaboration tools (Smartsheet, Jira, Confluence).
  • Must read, write, and speak English effectively in business and technical contexts.

Work Environment

This position operates in an office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.

Salary Range

$139,874.00 - $250,377.40
