Mechanical Design Engineer Co‑Op (Spring/Summer 2026) – position for full‑time, on‑site internship in San Diego, CA. About IMRVS Sector

Quartus' Industrial Metrology, Robotics, and Vision Systems (IMRVS) Sector provides engineering services and product development for a wide variety of applications in precision manufacturing and automation. What will you do?

As a Mechanical Design Engineer Co‑op/Intern, you will design, develop, and build robust mechanics for high‑performance optical systems. You will work as part of a cross‑disciplinary team to meet project and customer requirements and gain exposure to a wide variety of optical systems from airborne remote sensing to industrial automation.

Essential Job Functions

• Design and develop opto‑mechanical assemblies and sub‑systems.
• Build prototypes and create detailed CAD drawings and production instructions.
• Test and implement full systems before shipping the final product to customers.
• Help verify appropriate mechanical design elements by building a tolerance budget for each component.
• Maintain technical documentation (models, CAD drawings, simulations, BOMs, etc.).
• Work closely with program manager and customer on technical requirements.
• Work on projects independently, and with a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers and technicians.

Location

Position is based onsite in San Diego, CA.

Qualifications

• Sophomores, juniors, or seniors currently enrolled at a four‑year institution.
• Majoring in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
• Proactive, open‑minded, eager to learn and willing to work hard as part of a team.
• Interested in mechanical design and opto‑mechanical assemblies.
• Available full time for specified term (40 hours per week).
• Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident).

Compensation and Benefits

Intern/Co‑op pay range: $24.00–$28.00 per hour (bachelor's) or $28.00–$32.00 per hour (master's). Base pay plus eligibility for additional benefits and compensation.
