We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Data Science Engineers to join our DevSecOps Department/Cyber, Modeling and Simulation Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL/Penn States purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs.

Your working location will be on-site in San Diego, CA or Oahu, Hawaii

You will:

1. Develop and implement data analytics techniques and applications to transform raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software


2. Apply data mining, data modeling, statistics, graph algorithms and machine learning to extract and analyze information from large structured and unstructured datasets to support analytics objectives


3. Visualize, interpret, and report data findings in dynamic data reports


4. Employ a variety of data manipulation and visualization tools to best convey information/results to customers


5. Support the design, development, testing and implementation of web based collaboration tools & platforms for data reporting


6. Plan and conduct software integration or testing, including analyzing and implementing test plans and scripts, in support of analytics objectives


7. Conduct exploratory data analysis for testing hypotheses

This position can be filled at multiple levels depending on education and experience. A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline and 5+ years related experience are required. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher level positions. A Master's degree is preferred.

Required skills/experience areas include:

1. Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python (primary) or R, and using packages commonly used in data science applications or advanced analytics such as SQL.


2. Familiarity with Kubernetes clusters and tools such as Prometheus or similar.


3. Proficiency in Grafana for monitoring application performance.


4. Experience working with data in formats like Excel, CSV, JSON, XML.


5. Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, to share insights with decision makers.


6. Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.
