The material handler's primary responsibility is to manage the flow of materials in a warehouse, distribution center, or manufacturing facility. This involves a range of tasks, including:
Receiving and Storing: Unloading incoming shipments, checking them for accuracy and quality, and storing them in designated areas.
Inventory Management: Maintaining accurate inventory records, performing cycle counts, and tracking stock levels.
Order Fulfillment: Pulling, packing, and preparing orders for shipment.
Loading and Transport: Loading outgoing trucks and moving materials between different areas using equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks.
Safety and Organization: Adhering to all safety guidelines, performing regular maintenance on equipment, and keeping the workspace clean and organized.
Job Functions
Work with and assist crew members in all matters relating to material and yard organization and material acquisition.
Safety oversight of all yard activity and personnel
Collect invoices and packing slips and get them to the project manager.
Operate various class forklifts.
Operate trucks and ATVs.
Load and unload trucks with material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles
Sort and organize material and poles in yards.
Inspect the condition of the material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles.
Make minor repairs.
Tagging
Kitting, packaging, and staging for contractors.
Deliveries to contactors
Building material cribbing
Pick up trash and clean the yards, equipment, and associated outbuildings.
Requirements
Physical
Ability to lift heavy items, stand/walk for long periods, and have the physical stamina for repetitive tasks.
Skills
Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
Basic math and computer skills for inventory management.
Good communication skills.
Education
A high school diploma or GED is required
Certifications
Forklift certification preferred
