Job Details

The material handler's primary responsibility is to manage the flow of materials in a warehouse, distribution center, or manufacturing facility. This involves a range of tasks, including:

• Receiving and Storing: Unloading incoming shipments, checking them for accuracy and quality, and storing them in designated areas.
• Inventory Management: Maintaining accurate inventory records, performing cycle counts, and tracking stock levels.
• Order Fulfillment: Pulling, packing, and preparing orders for shipment.
• Loading and Transport: Loading outgoing trucks and moving materials between different areas using equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Safety and Organization: Adhering to all safety guidelines, performing regular maintenance on equipment, and keeping the workspace clean and organized.

Job Functions

• Work with and assist crew members in all matters relating to material and yard organization and material acquisition.
• Safety oversight of all yard activity and personnel
• Collect invoices and packing slips and get them to the project manager.
• Operate various class forklifts.
• Operate trucks and ATVs.
• Load and unload trucks with material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles
• Sort and organize material and poles in yards.
• Inspect the condition of the material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles.
• Make minor repairs.
• Tagging
• Kitting, packaging, and staging for contractors.
• Deliveries to contactors
• Building material cribbing
• Pick up trash and clean the yards, equipment, and associated outbuildings.

Requirements

Physical

Ability to lift heavy items, stand/walk for long periods, and have the physical stamina for repetitive tasks.

Skills

• Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
• Basic math and computer skills for inventory management.
• Good communication skills.

Education

A high school diploma or GED is required

Certifications

Forklift certification preferred
