Data Scientist/Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Client located in San Diego, CA)
Work Shift: Monday through Friday (8:00AM – 5:00PM PST)
Must be able to work on a W-2 basis. Local to San Diego, CA area.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This Global FinTech company has an immediate long-term contract opportunity in San Diego, CA for a Data Scientist/Engineer. This position requires working hybrid up to 3 days onsite, Monday-Friday.
Contract Duration: 6 months (Possible Extension)
Responsibilities
- Lead experimentation, apply advanced statistical methods, and craft data-driven narratives that inform senior leadership and guide decision-making.
- Partner closely with business operations, product, and engineering teams to evaluate program performance, design causal models, and deliver insights that drive efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with fellow data scientists and analysts to deliver solutions impacting customer journeys, operational readiness, and revenue growth.
- Perform business analysis using techniques such as statistical analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling, and data mining.
- Determine best practices and develop actionable insights and recommendations for current business operations.
- Identify analytical requirements with internal or external clients; produce ad hoc data and reports as needed.
- Assist in implementing or developing systems to capture business operation information.
- Occasionally guide less experienced business data analysts.
- Lead design, execution, and interpretation of A/B and other experimental methodologies to evaluate program and product performance.
- Apply Bayesian methods and causal inference to uncover insights that improve customer experience, reduce friction, and drive revenue.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to define success metrics and measurement frameworks; ensure alignment on tracking and communication of outcomes.
- Collaborate with data engineering to guide development and maintenance of reliable data marts for scalable analysis.
Skills Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or related field; ability to extract insights and tell data-driven stories that drive business impact.
- Excellent SQL skills for data extraction, manipulation, and pipeline development.
- Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik); experience with Python or R for advanced analytics, modeling, and automation is a plus.
- Familiarity with big data tools (e.g., Snowflake, Spark, Databricks) is a plus.
- Machine learning and Generative AI experience is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and end-to-end quantitative thinking skills.
