Lead Quality Engineer

Axos Bank is seeking a Lead Quality Engineer with a strong background in testing web and mobile applications, particularly in the online banking domain. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with automation frameworks—either UI or API—and a passion for delivering high‑quality, secure, and user‑friendly digital banking experiences. Experience with low‑code/no‑code automation platforms like Testim is a plus. This role is onsite at the headquarters in San Diego, California; remote or hybrid is not available.

About This Job

Axos Bank offers a competitive salary range of $90,000 – $110,000 per year, with actual starting pay varying based on geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education. Eligible for an annual discretionary cash bonus target of 10% and an annual discretionary restricted stock units bonus target of 10%. These discretionary bonuses may be awarded semi‑annually based on achievement of performance goals and targets.

Responsibilities

• Lead organization‑wide quality initiatives with an automation‑first and AI‑first mindset.
• Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for web and mobile applications.
• Participate in sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives as part of an Agile team.
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other quality engineers to understand requirements and define test strategies.
• Oversee release coordination activities and provide formal quality endorsement confirming the project's readiness for deployment.
• Maintain standardized quality dashboards for each project to monitor key metrics and performance indicators.
• Attend project status meetings to showcase automation and AI impact.
• Escalate quality‑related conflicts to QE management.
• Mentor QEs through 1‑on‑1 guidance and peer review sessions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with a focus on leading a team of 6 or more.
• Proficiency in at least one area of automation: UI automation using frameworks like Selenium or Cypress, mobile automation using Appium, or API automation using tools such as Postman or RestAssured.
• Experience testing both web UI and mobile applications (iOS and Android).
• Experience working with SQL databases for test data validation and backend verification.
• Exposure to low‑code/no‑code automation platforms such as Testim is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI fundamentals and AI usage in software testing.
• Strong understanding of QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development practices.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate issues and collaborate across teams.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience in the banking or fintech industry is a plus.
