Vice President, Research Business Insights & Technology
At Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), a global biopharmaceutical leader, we are seeking a visionary scientific and technical leader to serve as Vice President of Research Business Insights & Technology. The role reports to the Senior Vice President of R&D – Business Insights & Technology and directs a global team of 175 analysts, data scientists, and engineers across Boston, Princeton, California, Seattle, and Hyderabad. With an approximate $100 million budget, the VP shapes our strategic vision and execution for technology, data, AI, and analytics to drive smarter decision‑making throughout early R&D, accelerating the discovery of lifesaving medicines.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a bold Business Insights and Technology strategy that aligns with BMS's portfolio goals, championing cutting‑edge technologies such as GenAI, AI/ML, automation, high‑performance computing, and cloud platforms to predict, design, assess, and prioritize drug candidates.
- Ensure operational excellence of systems and technology, prioritizing reliability and continuous improvement across ELN, LIMS, and analytic tools.
- Lead, mentor, and expand a global, high‑performance team, fostering an inclusive culture that attracts and develops top talent and future leaders in data, AI, and technology.
- Drive innovation in drug discovery through in‑silico design and analytics, partnering with specialized computational chemistry and chemoinformatics groups to accelerate the pipeline.
- Enable translational and precision medicine capabilities, integrating data across preclinical, clinical, and real‑world evidence to inform early development strategies.
- Serve as a bridge between scientific and technical teams, delivering technology solutions that support decision‑making throughout research phases.
- Oversee portfolio and budget management, prioritizing initiatives that deliver high scientific impact and cost efficiency while evaluating build‑vs‑buy opportunities.
- Develop enterprise R&D data infrastructure and technology platforms, partnering with data teams to ensure governance, quality, and reproducibility.
- Represent BMS as a thought leader, forging strategic collaborations with academia, industry consortia, and technology partners, and presenting at key conferences.
- Promote a data‑driven culture, supporting a predict‑first approach to drug discovery decisions and increasing analytics adoption across teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant technology or scientific field (e.g., Computer Science, MBA, computational sciences) with deep understanding of drug discovery processes.
- 15+ years of R&D analytics leadership in biopharma, technology, or biotechnology, with a proven track record of delivering results through analytics, AI, or data science.
- Strategic visionary with experience transforming technology organizations, establishing new capabilities, or driving business outcomes.
- Global people leader with experience managing large, distributed teams (100+ employees) and multimillion‑dollar budgets, cultivating diverse, high‑performing teams.
- Exceptional cross‑functional influence, collaborating with senior R&D leaders and presenting to executive committees.
- Deep technical expertise in AI/ML, predictive modeling, computational chemistry/biology, bioinformatics, statistics, and drug‑design technologies.
- Innovation‑oriented mindset, translating new ideas into tangible improvements and challenging the status quo.
- Broad industry perspective, understanding emerging R&D information technology trends and benchmarking against best practice.

Compensation Overview
Base salary range: $289,600 – $350,900, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities subject to eligibility. Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience and qualifications.
