We manufacture hundreds of different variants of metal and metal-oxide core/shell nanocomposites for a wide range of applications including biosensors, medical devices, clinical diagnostics, and optical effects. Our Product Management team currently has an opportunity for a Nanomaterials Conjugation and Applications Scientist in San Diego, CA.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Manager of Development Science, the Nanomaterials Conjugation and Applications Scientist will collaborate with the Manager and Product Management team to design, execute, and analyze experiments. This role involves significant focus on diagnostic and therapeutic applications of nanomaterials, such as immunoassay development, bioconjugation, and biomolecule encapsulation. Working with a high level of independence, this individual will work closely with internal and external users of products to optimize, improve, and develop new commercial product variants, generate scientific data, and establish associated protocols. This includes the fabrication, processing, integration, and characterization of nanomaterials.

Job Duties

  • Lead development of nanoparticle conjugates and integrate conjugates into diagnostic assays.
  • Independently develop and optimize quantitative and semi-quantitative assays to measure small and large molecule interactions with nanoparticle systems.
  • Provide technical support directly to customers, including virtual consultations, hands‑on experiments, and on‑site visits.
  • Generate performance or other experimental testing data to support marketing and new product introduction activities.
  • Lead and manage stand‑alone development projects or components of larger projects with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Thoroughly document experimental procedures, results, and customer interactions to ensure accurate and comprehensive records.
  • Conduct market research in support of marketing or new product introduction initiatives.

Who You Are & What You Bring

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or similar field
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the diagnostics or therapeutics industry; Master's degree requires 2+ years of experience; PhD, no industry experience required.
  • Experience in a customer‑facing role, particularly presenting data and providing concrete recommendations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment.
  • Strong written and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to regularly work in a laboratory environment utilizing various equipment and instruments including, but not limited to, pipettes, fume hoods, UV-Vis Spectrophotometers, TEM, and Imagene IsoFlow™.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual Salary Range: $83,000.00-$95,000.00
