Linux Network Engineer (Junior) with Security Clearance

SAN DIEGO, CA. BreakPoint Labs is seeking a Linux Network Engineer to support Network Engineering's service provisioning the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) and Secret Research and Engineering Network (SDREN). The role requires at least 2 years of experience and a Top‑Secret DoD clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide system and network administration support to a large‑scale 24×7 organization.
• Perform hands‑on installation, hardening, and troubleshooting of network and system equipment.
• Participate in development and maintenance of network performance and utilization analysis, including troubleshooting when necessary.
• Analyze to improve system and network operation and enhance security posture.
• Perform a variety of systems and network engineering tasks that are broad in nature and concern system design, integration, and implementation.
• Apply critical thinking and troubleshooting for detailed, high‑quality work.
• Communicate concisely and clearly and work professionally in a team environment.
• Provide a proactive, positive approach to customer service.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Proficient in Linux and working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
• Relevant, technical experience in an enterprise or data‑center environment.
• Understanding of IPv4 and familiarity with IPv6 routing and multicast.
• Working knowledge and experience with data center technologies such as LAN and WAN, NAS/SAN storage, firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs, and network protocols (TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP).
• Experience with network security, intrusion detection, and server monitoring.
• Familiarity with Palo Alto, F5, Gigamon, Juniper, Symantec, Fidelis, Fluency, HAIPE/EDE technologies is desired.
• IAT Level II certification required (e.g., Security+).
• Top‑Secret security clearance required; Interim Top‑Secret acceptable.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
