Introduction

A Technology Sales Engineer (internally called a Brand Technical Specialist) works for IBM Automation, supporting clients in the Energy & Utilities, Communications, and High‑Tech verticals across the United States. You will partner with customers to uncover their needs, build trust, and demonstrate how IBM's Automation Application Integration solutions deliver value.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Brand Technical Specialist you will:

  • Engage in pre‑sales activities: business discussions, solution discovery, assessments, demonstrations, pilots, and proofs of concept.
  • Analyze client business and technical requirements, and assess the competitive landscape.
  • Deliver customized presentations, demos, and written documentation to support the sales team.
  • Ensure technical accuracy of proposed solutions for specific opportunities.
  • Provide domain, product, and technical expertise for the IBM Automation APP INT pillar (Hybrid iPaaS, WebMethods, API Connect, App Connect, CP4I, Sterling B2Bi, Aspera, Event Automation).
  • Build and maintain client relationships, incorporating hardware, software, and services into customer‑valued solutions.
  • Coordinate with solutions SMEs, partners, and other resources to deliver successful technical reviews.
  • Travel up to 60% and be available on site three days per week, either at the IBM office or at client locations.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's Degree

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Proven record of understanding client issues and developing winning strategies.
  • Excellent customer relations, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve business and technical challenges.
  • Travel up to 60% or 3 days a week (home on weekends based on project requirements).
  • Strong negotiation and prioritization skills.
  • Fluent in English.

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • 3+ years of experience with application integration solutions or comparable technologies.
  • Track record of working with sales reps, SMEs, and partners to close deals.
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and opportunities simultaneously.
  • Quick learning of IBM's product portfolio and services.
