Job Description

Contract Litigation Attorney – Meaningful Work in Complex Civil Litigation ( San Diego, CA )

Overview

Join a highly regarded San Diego litigation boutique that is making a real impact in the world of affordable housing and public interest law. This is a unique opportunity for a Contract Litigation Attorney to handle challenging, high-level work while enjoying the flexibility of a contract arrangement—with strong potential for full-time or temp-to-perm placement.

About the Practice

The firm's work spans the full spectrum of housing and affordable housing law, representing clients in areas such as:

  • Federal Affordable Housing Programs
  • Fair Housing & Homeless Assistance Programs
  • HUD Lending Programs
  • Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC)
  • Asset and Property Management
  • Public Housing & Relocation
  • Federal Section 8 Rental Assistance
  • Housing Law Litigation

In addition, the team manages sophisticated real estate, land use, and construction litigation matters, including zoning, subdivision, condemnation, loan documentation, foreclosures, and receiverships.

The Role

This role offers the best of both worlds: the depth and sophistication of complex litigation with the autonomy of an independent contributor. You'll be trusted to manage your own cases and contribute meaningfully to the firm's impactful housing and real estate work.

Key Responsibilities

Handle litigation matters from start to finish, including:

  • Drafting and arguing motions
  • Managing discovery and depositions
  • Conducting legal research and preparing persuasive briefs
  • Appearing in Superior Court and occasionally Federal District Court
  • Act as second or first chair in complex matters
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys while managing your own caseload
  • Deliver polished, strategic work with minimal supervision

What You Bring

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership
  • Strong litigation background—civil, housing, or real estate experience preferred
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Confidence in managing cases independently and appearing in court
  • A proactive, organized approach to client service and case management

Compensation & Structure

  • Contract position with potential for full-time or temp-to-perm transition
  • Competitive hourly rate, 3–7 year litigation attorneys $70–$110/hour
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangement in San Diego, CA

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

You'll gain access to meaningful, intellectually engaging litigation while working alongside respected housing law experts. For attorneys who value autonomy, impact, and professional growth, this role offers a dynamic path forward.

Salary Range

$110,000 - $160,000
