About The Role – Engineering Supervisor
The Engineering Supervisor will assist the Director of Engineering in the day‑to‑day operations of the engineering department. This position will primarily be responsible for overseeing the general and preventative maintenance and repairs of guest rooms, meeting spaces, public areas, back‑of‑house areas, and equipment. The position requires a strong working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire, HVAC refrigeration, paint, and safety within a hotel environment to assist department Engineers to perform their jobs safely and efficiently. Evening availability is required.
Core Functions
- Adhere to Hyatt Hotels Corporation guidelines and core values to ensure the health, safety and comfort of our colleagues and guests.
- Ensure proper execution of work orders and systems requests and that items are completed in a timely manner by self and the team. Supervise necessary repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules, policies and rules to ensure an efficient department.
- Maintain logs on movement of stock items and tools and monitor distribution of items to the team and within the hotel.
- Inspect and observe equipment in operation for defects, locate causes of trouble in equipment or functionality of spaces and troubleshoot as appropriate.
- Ensure that meter readings are taken daily on heat and light and review information to evaluate consumption.
- Ensure Engineers maintain clean, organized, and safe working areas and Engineering shop.
- Assist the Director of Engineering in supervising and training all Engineers in guest service, standard operating procedures, loss prevention, and other trainings as assigned.
- Ensure all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested and certified per Hyatt standards.
- Assist the Director of Engineering with any major projects, including administration of vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department, and scheduling services.
- Provide assistance to other team members and departments to contribute to the best overall performance of the department and hotel and communicate effectively with guests and fellow colleagues.
- Maintain a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times, while providing personalized service to hotel guests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Wage Information
The hourly wage for this position is $31.50-$33.50.
Signing Bonus will be paid out as follows: $500 upon reaching 90 days and $500 upon reaching 180 days. Bonus payments will be paid on paycheck following the colleague reaching 90 days and 180 days respectively. Colleague must be a current Hyatt Regency La Jolla employee to receive the bonus.

Qualifications
- A true desire to satisfy the needs of others in a fast‑paced environment. Refined verbal and written communication skills.
- 2-4 years previous hotel experience as a maintenance department supervisor or progressive maintenance responsibility.
- Previous supervisory experience overseeing employees preferred.
- Working knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, screening, locks, HVAC, boiler operations, and proper tool and chemical use.
- Licensed in a trade (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, etc.) preferred.
- The ability to lift, pull and push a moderate weight and the ability to stand/walk for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours per shift).
