Housing Inspector

CGI Federal, a federal contractor serving public housing agencies across the U.S., is hiring full-time Housing Inspectors in the San Diego area. This role is critical to ensuring safe, decent, and sanitary housing for residents through inspections aligned with HUD's NSPIRE and HQS standards. You'll work independently in the field, using mobile tools to document housing conditions, educate stakeholders, and help bring units into compliance. This is a mission-driven role with real community impact.

Your future duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections using NSPIRE and HQS protocols to assess housing conditions.
  • Use mobile devices to document findings and upload reports in real time.
  • Ensure timely inspection of new and annual units and follow up on cited violations.
  • Educate landlords, tenants, and property managers on compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate records for each unit inspected.
  • Provide coverage in other areas as needed and support team operations.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

  • At least 1 year of experience in housing inspections, construction, real estate, or a related field.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong tech skills: comfortable using mobile apps, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) and local codes.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to pay business expenses up front (reimbursed per CGI policy).
  • Strong communication, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a daily field schedule.
  • Preferred: NSPIRE or HQS certification. Experience with Section 8 or public housing programs. Licensed Home Inspector or equivalent credentials. Bilingual or multilingual skills.
