Material Handler

Description:

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Sign for received materials, check against packing slips, and process mismatched or damaged items.
  • Unload delivery vehicles, verify materials against purchase orders, and enter data into SAP.
  • Deliver materials, mail, packages, research animals, and in-house stock requests to designated locations.
  • Handle, store, and transport hazardous, chemical, biological, and radioactive materials safely.
  • Sort and distribute mail (domestic/international), operate postage machines, and maintain mailboxes.
  • Maintain departmental inventory, including compressed gases if applicable.
  • Transfer supplies and small quantities of DOT-regulated materials between sites.
  • Operate company vehicles safely, refueling and maintaining cleanliness as needed.
  • Ensure warehouse areas are kept clean and organized.
  • Adhere to regulatory training and safety procedures, reporting hazards or unsafe practices.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and courteous service to customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Experience Required

  • 2-4 years of experience in materials distribution (shipping, receiving, inventory), or equivalent education and experience.
  • Preferred experience with temperature-sensitive product handling.

Skills & Certifications

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in computer systems, Excel, Word, and familiarity with SAP.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted.
  • Basic mathematical skills.

Eligibilities & qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Willingness to operate manual material handling equipment, forklifts, and company vehicles as required.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Participation in required workplace safety meetings and training.
