We're partnering with an established U.S. provider of electron microscopy & materials characterization solutionsto hire an Electron Microscopy Sales Representative in Southern California. This is a field-based, consultative capital equipment role selling electron microscopy solutions (desktop SEMs and accessories), EDS, and ion milling systems into high-value accounts in semiconductor, advanced materials, and research institutions across Southern California. You'll operate with an owner-operator mindset-building pipeline, orchestrating technical resources, and closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals.

You'll thrive here if you enjoy:

  • Owning a territory like a business: planning, prospecting, multithreading stakeholders, and forecasting with discipline
  • Selling high-impact capital equipment to scientists and engineers-and turning demos into business outcomes
  • Partnering closely with a PhD-level Applications team for discovery, demos (virtual/on-site), installs, and training
  • Being in the field with customers (semicon, materials, failure analysis, quality, academia/government/industrial R&D)
  • Winning in competitive situations by framing clear technical and commercial value

What you bring:

  • 5+ years of capital equipment sales experience (>$100k ASP) with a track record of closing complex deals
  • Hands-on exposure to SEM/EDS/ion milling (or adjacent materials characterization) strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Physical Science or Engineering discipline
  • Command of territory planning, opportunity management, and accurate forecasting (Salesforce experience preferred)
  • Strong communication, credibility with technical users, and a self-driven, trustworthy work ethic
  • Ability to travel ~30% and safely handle demo equipment as needed

If this sounds like you, let's talk.

Purpose of the Position

Success requires disciplined pipeline management, consultative selling, and seamless coordination with Applications, Service, and Marketing.

  • Build and manage a balanced pipeline; run the full sales cycle: discovery, scoping, proposals, negotiation, and close
  • Coordinate resources for high-signal evaluations and demos (virtual/on-site) with Applications and supplier partners
  • Represent the company at workshops, conferences, and regional events; deliver customer talks when appropriate
  • Maintain rigorous CRM hygiene and deliver reliable weekly/monthly forecasts in Salesforce
  • Expand relationships across accounts; map buying committees and drive consensus among technical and economic stakeholders
  • Provide structured voice-of-customer feedback to marketing/product; track competitive intelligence
  • Ensure clean post-sale handoffs; support installs and user adoption milestones in collaboration with Applications and Service

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 5+ years in field sales of high-value capital equipment (>$100k ASP); demonstrable closing ability
  • Prior success selling into semicon/materials/failure analysis/QA or advanced research environments

Education:

  • BS/BA or higher in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of SEM fundamentals, EDS workflows, and sample preparation/ion milling (preferred)
  • Territory planning, multithreaded deal management, and enterprise-grade forecasting discipline
  • Salesforce or equivalent CRM proficiency; strong written/verbal communication to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to safely lift and move demo equipment/cases as required; valid driver's license
