About the Facility - San Diego VAMC
The San Diego VAMC is a large medical facility located in La Jolla, California, that provides healthcare to veterans. LVN - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

• The LVN provides direct care to assigned patients, including monitoring their condition, changing dressings, administering medications, and assisting with daily living activities.
• Report any changes in the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse (RN).
• Educate patients and families on medications and equipment usage.
• Record patient information accurately in the medical chart, including vital signs, responses to treatment, and care provided.
• Report observations about the patient's physical and emotional state.
• The LVN assists with various medical procedures and tests, such as collecting samples and positioning patients.
• Recognize and respond to emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary arrest and disruptive behavior.
• Care for patients requiring constant observation.
• Prepare, administer, and document prescribed medications according to policy.
• Observe and report patient reactions to medications.
• Secure and manage narcotic medications.
• Report to the RN about completed tasks, patient changes, and remaining care needs.
• The LVN collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure patient care coordination.

LVN - REQUIREMENTS

• Years of Experience: minimum of (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years as a licensed practical nurse.
• Minimum Education: A.S. Degree from an Accredited Nursing School Program.
• A current license in at least one (1) state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
• Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support).
