NSC Staffing is seeking a skilled Shipfitter Loft Journeyperson to join our team in the fabrication of components and assemblies for Navy Ships, Military Sealift Command, and commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of ship terminology, blueprint reading, and the ability to interpret job specifications and drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform ship checks as required and maintain a comprehensive understanding of ship repair terminology and compartment locations.
Operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers.
Read and interpret structural drawings, sketches, and specifications accurately.
Comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence effectively.
Carry out balancing air systems operations, document results, and write comprehensive Condition Found Reports (CFR).
Communicate job-related information effectively to structural supervisors, improvers, and helpers.
Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and BAE best safety practices while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean and safe work area, complete daily assignments, and provide status updates for shift turnover.
Resolve unexpected events related to assigned tasks professionally.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED), or completion of vocational training in a related field.
Minimum of six (6) years of related experience, with three (3) years in a maritime environment.
Experience as a loftsperson within the last three (3) years or completion of lofting vocational training.
Familiarity with repairing and installing structural plates and shapes, and foundations on ships.
Strong mathematical skills and understanding of US customary and metric measurement systems.
Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights above 12 feet.
